While many people prize lavender for its sweet calming scent, lavender essential oil has many uses beyond a floral relaxant. These include helping heal acne, bug bites, bruises and sprains. Beyond these uses though, I chose lavender as a summer essential oil because summer often equals sunburns.
Lavender essential oil has long been used to treat burns of all degrees. To help treat your sunburn you can keep a lavender body spray in your beach bag, immerse a towel in cold water that has a couple of drops of lavender essential oil in it and then dab it on the skin, or simply mix a drop or two of oil into a palm full of aloe vera and rub it on any areas that have received too much sun.

Massage is extremely beneficial for the body and therapeutic for the mind. Massaging in general increases blood flow, boosts immunity and kick starts relaxation, putting you into “Rest and Digest” mode.
Massaging the abdomen offers a natural approach to supporting digestion, it can help stimulate the muscles and organs required to produce a bowel movement. If constipation or indigestion are a problem in your life and you’re interested in a completely natural and chemical-free mode of therapy that you can even do yourself, give abdominal massage a try. Massage can also help ease and possibly relieve the pain and discomfort associated with certain digestive disorders, including irritable bowel syndrome, ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s Disease.
To treat digestive disorders, massage therapists apply gentle manual pressure to the outside of the abdomen to feel the internal structures of the large intestine and small intestine. In some cases, the massage therapist may be able to feel an area in the digestive tract that is congested. Massaging the affected area can help stimulate the spontaneous movement of the digestive tract (a process called peristalsis) and reduce symptoms such as cramping, bloating, gas, and constipation. Abdominal massage may help remove blockages that have become trapped within the intestinal wall. The application of heat or ice can be used along with massage to give an increased affect.
Massage as we know can be used to relieve anxiety and tension that are known causes of an increase in symptoms for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Massage can also be used during periods of remission for patients with ulcerative colitis or Crohn’s disease to manage chronic pain, but it should also not be used during an active flare-up as it can exacerbate the pain and increase the risk of intestinal problems. Should you have any concerns, please don’t hesitate to ask your family doctor or your Registered Massage Therapist if abdominal massage therapy is right for you.
Below is a mini guide on how to give yourself a mini abdominal massage to ease some discomfort at home.
Abdominal Massage: How-To
Unlike some other forms of massage, abdominal massage is easy to do on your own. Various techniques exist, but there are two I typically suggest for those just starting:

Fiber is fabulous not only because it will help you feel full, it also offers a number of health benefits. Fibergy Plus uses fiber primarily from psyllium and inulin; there’s some flaxseed meal in there too.
It provides 8 grams of soluble fiber, which dissolves in water and has been shown to be beneficial cardiovascular health, and 4 grams of insoluble fiber, which helps move things along in your digestive system. Inulin also acts as a prebiotic, which supports healthy immunity by stimulating the growth of healthy bacteria in your gut.
USANA Probiotic uses patented strains Lactobacillus rhamnosus LGG® and Bifidobacterium BB-12® because they are well-documented to survive transit through the acidic stomach environment. This is important, because the bacteria aren’t going to do you any good if they die the second you swallow them.
Because the product is in a stick pack, you are able to get a higher effective dose with a much longer shelf life than most of the yogurt-type products out there — specifically, 12 billion colony forming units at the time of manufacture with an 18-month shelf life. Plus, if you don’t like yogurt, you don’t have to eat it with USANA Probiotic! You can take the product straight from the package or mix it with any cold food or beverage. Talk about your health, your way.
Enzymes that are important to human health are abundant in raw foods. These enzymes can be dramatically diminished as a result of our modern diet, which often involves cooking and heavily processing raw foods. Many researchers have maintained that this loss of dietary enzymes, along with the natural decline of digestive enzymes, may be a significant contributing factor to poor health as we age.
Usana's Digestive Enzyme contains a broad range of enzymes that will help you digest various types of foods, including lactase, which assists in the digestion of foods containing lactose and can help with mild symptoms of lactose intolerance.
By supplementing the enzymes that are naturally produced in your body, your digestive system works efficiently to ensure that you are able to get all of the nutrients out of your food. And, by helping your body digest all of these things efficiently, it can help alleviate that sense of over-fullness that can happen if you overindulge (NEVER happens, right?).
So, if you are heading out to an all-you-can-eat gutbuster or a meal with an important client or new sweetheart and you want to do whatever you can to avoid any uncomfortable situations, just take one to three Digestive Enzyme tablets before your meal.
The liver is an important organ that performs many vital functions. It processes almost everything we ingest, breathe, or absorb through the skin. It plays an important role in digestion and metabolism, and it also produces a variety of important proteins, including enzymes, hormones, blood proteins, clotting factors, and immune factors. The liver also plays a critical role in detoxification. Because the liver performs so many vital functions, it is crucially important to maintain healthy liver function.
Hepa Plus was designed for those who are interested in supporting healthy liver function. Many individuals can benefit from Hepa Plus, but normal liver detoxification is especially relevant for individuals exposed to pollution, chemicals, or other toxins on a recurring basis.

Massage Therapy to Relax the Hands
Here are several moves that will relieve the strain from pounding the keyboard all day.
* Stretch your hands and fingers out. Rub each finger from the base to the tip, gently pulling and twisting each finger as you go.
* Next, rest your left hand, palm upward, on your lap. Squeeze the fleshy part of your palm between your right thumb and index finger, moving from your wrist to the base of your thumb.
* Now squeeze that web between your left index finger and thumb several times, looking for any tender points.
* Then rub the entire palm with your right thumb, applying firm pressure and using gliding strokes from the wrist to the base of each finger.
Massaging the hands is not only great for the hands but can help to relieve headaches as well. The hands, like the feet, contain reflexology points that correspond to the entire body, including the head, neck, eyes, ears, nose, mouth, and sinuses.
The Daoist theory of Yin & Yang believes a healthy life involves balance. When we are in balance, the body, mind and spirit are harmonious. When we are not in balance, this creates an atmosphere for dis-ease to occur. If you are having difficulty respecting and loving yourself, if your self-worth is not as strong as you would like, look within and ponder this…There are nine areas of our life that need to be balanced and nourished to maintain harmony. If disease does arise, examine these areas and determine which one is in excess or deficient and adjust accordingly the energy and time spent on the category.
Bob Flaws, one of the leaders of Traditional Chinese Medicine in North America said it succinctly…Consider the aspects of our life like petals on a flower. Each one must be well cared for, for the conditions of healing to occur. These areas are Work, Play, Exercise, Relaxation, Diet, Family/Friendship, Emotions and Sex. However, in my opinion, Flaws has neglected the most important aspect of our life, our Spirit. I would position Spirit at centre of the flower from which all petals extend from. Knowing our Spirit and the ability to understand our true nature… where we have come from, why we are here and where we are going are paramount to health and longevity. Find and nourish your Spirit and all else in your life will blossom.
